Disassemble cables

In order to ease accessability for emergency services and other official services, SAFENCE cable barriers are designed to enable quick and simple disassemble. Depending on teh design on each particular SAFENCE system this process could vary slightly, but in general caps, cable spreaders and reflectors are released by simply pulling and tugging cables upwards. Make sure to collect all bits and pieces, most (if not all) of them can be reused and it is not acceptable to leave waste on the ground.

It is recommended to allow for cables to take ground over approximately 50 m but the actual distance of releasing cables from posts will differ as the cable tension is temperature dependent. If deemed necessary or simplifying it is possible to release tension from cables, this task is performed by operating contractor. Releasing of cable tension is generally not necessary.

When disassembling SAFENCE cable barriers in horizontal curvatures it is particularly important to, in turn, remove wires from posts starting at one end. To remove wires from two different directions in order to meet in the middle where cables might have high tension on a single post is highly dangerous. No person should be on the inside of a horizontal curve when cables are being released from posts.

Posts are lifted straight up and put to side. Traffic is redirected by passing over the cables, please note that this should not be located where traffic will be passing over turnbuckles. When passing over cables will be performed over a longer period of time cables should be protected by cloth and possibly plastic tubes and then covered by asphalt in order to protect cables from wear.

This video illustrates a simple disassembly of SAFENCE cable barrier in order to redirect traffic to pass over the cables if traffic comes to a halt in either direction or similarly if emergency services need to access people in distress. In a matter of minutes, SAFENCE is disassembled over a distance long enough to have traffic passing through.
